Update coming soon

For residents of 57 & 59 Cowley Road

We are setting up a residents’ association.

A group of residents is starting an association so that we can speak to the landlord with one voice. This page will have all the information. We will share more details soon.

You do not need to do anything now.

We are collecting information first. When we are ready, we will invite all residents to join.

What is a residents’ association?

A residents’ association is a group of people who live in the same building. Its members work together on problems that affect all residents.

When the landlord or a tribunal recognises the association, it gets legal rights. It is free to join, and your lease stays the same.

  1. 01 Residents join together

Residents agree a simple set of rules and choose a chair, a secretary and a treasurer.

  2. 02 The association gets recognised

The landlord or the First-tier Tribunal can recognise the association. Usually, most of the flats must join.

  3. 03 We get information

The association can ask for details of service charges and costs, and get copies of the documents.

  4. 04 We are consulted

The landlord must ask for our opinion on major works and on the choice of managing agent.

Is there a downside?

No. Joining does not cost you anything and it does not change your rights. It only gives us more ways to protect our building.

Here are answers to the questions that residents ask most often.

Does it cost anything to join?

No. It is free to join and there is no membership fee.

Does it change my lease or my legal position?

No. Your lease, your ownership and your rights stay the same. The association does not own anything and does not make decisions for you.

What do we get from it?

A recognised association can ask for information about service charges, get copies of documents, and give its opinion on major works and on the managing agent. One group of residents is also harder to ignore than one resident.

Do I have to do any work?

No. A small group of volunteers does the work. Members get updates and can come to meetings and vote if they want to.

Can I leave later?

Yes. You can leave at any time. Tell us and we will remove you from the list.

What do you do with my details?

We use your details only for the association. To get recognised, we may need to show the landlord or the tribunal which flats are members.
